Deception Pass/Rosario Beach, WA
About 2 1/2 hours north of Seattle is a place called Deception Pass. The foreboding sounding name draws you to it wondering what is there to be seen. So, once I heard of the place, naturally I had to go. This 976 foot span connects Whidbey Island to the tiny Pass Island and Pass Island to Fidalgo Island. It boasts beautiful views of the water and surrounding islands. You park next to the bridge for a small fee and walk out on the bridge for the best views. There is also a trail that allows you to go under the bridge and down to a beach. It is quite the hike back up from the beach so be prepared. Sadly, my uneasiness with heights stopped me from walking all the way out onto the bridge so I was not able to get the awesome photos from the top. While we were there a search party was going on for someone who went missing and I was afraid if I walked any further out I would freeze and those rescuers would have to rescue me as well. lol Best to turn and go back to solid ground while my legs would still move.
Here are a few photos that I was able to get from the sidelines. Enjoy!
If you are headed to Deception Pass from the north, Fidalgo Island, to go to Whidbey Island you will pass the entrance to Rosario Beach. An absolutely lovely little beach. Black pebbles make up the sand, large tree trunks for driftwood, playful sea lions and a picturesque little view. A must see. This is one of my favorite beaches I have been to so far, it is quiet, secluded and just an absolute nice peaceful spot. We were lucky enough to see the sunset there and catch a few photos. I look forward to visiting again some day.
