The Three Sisters, River Fairy Island & A Secret Beach
Allow me to take you to a place where the imaginations of the mind grow and inspiration is plentiful. I stumbled upon this place in one of the most unlikely of locations, at least to me. An unexpected surprise. I spent hours exploring all the places, quietly observing the surroundings, nature and the possibilities. I lounged in the shadow of the three sisters, standing so tall and beautiful. The light sprinkling down.
I walked a bit by the water’s edge collecting shells and watching the birds.
After passing that way a bit I came upon a rocky island with trees, sand and moss. A fantastic place for river fairies to reside. Perfect nooks and crannies for treehouses and mossy pathways. Tiny caves for little rock houses. The water never rises too high here, but just enough. Herons swim nearby in the peaceful waters.
If you take the fairy path you come to a secret beach. Only a few will find it. It is very still and quiet there. The water comes and goes. This is where solitude resides.
At the back of the beach where the sand meets the trees you will find an overgrown path that leads to a clearing. A small gathering place perhaps, an ideal spot for small bonfires with friends and music.
Beyond the fires you arrive at the river’s edge, a strong and dangerous current flows through this place. As I walked along I startled a deer and its speckled fawn that were taking a drink from the water. I later found their tiny tracks in the sand walking along the shore. The fawn likes to nibble on the leaves nearby.
I lounged on a tree that had bent himself into a nice place to sit while reaching so hard for the sunlight. As I sat many squirrels watched to see who I was. I left a heart there on the banks for you to find, if you ever walk this way.
After resting a bit I decided to walk on to see what other things there were to discover. A short distance away was a much larger gathering place. A small opening in the trees brings you to it. Once you enter you are completely surrounded by tall trees. A large open sandy area in the middle. I can imagine great gatherings here, important discussions, community meeting grounds perhaps, or simply a place to spread a blanket and watch the stars in the circle of sky above. I stand in the outer ring, almost timid to reach the middle, and soak in the majestic power of this place.
As I leave and return to the three sisters I contemplate all I have seen, both the seen and the imagined. A fantastic place with still more to be discovered. Even the harsh winters here would almost be bearable with such a fine place to be. I think to return some day.
Maybe….or maybe I will travel on to see what other places I can find.
